What it is for, who it suits
Parked in the heat, in Morocco, Oman or Namibia, you either close the windows and bake, or open them and let the flies and mosquitoes in. These shades solve it: the mesh covers the whole door frame, you can lower the window and air flows without the insects.
They slip over the open door like a sock, held by their elastic, with no suction cups or adhesive. The window still works. The double mesh shades passengers and makes it harder to see in from outside, handy for a nap or for leaving things on the back seat. Folded, they fit in a door pocket (95 g per pair).
Limits: the front version reduces the driver's view; in many countries, including France, driving with covered front windows is not allowed, so keep it for stops and remove it before setting off. The rear version can stay on while driving. They fit most standard framed doors, not frameless windows.

Can I drive with them on?
With the rear version, yes. The front version blocks the driver's side view: use it only when parked, it is not allowed while driving in many countries.
Will they fit a rental 4x4?
Yes if it has standard doors with a window frame; measure the door if in doubt, the mesh stretches.
