Our methodology

Rules, fees and paperwork come from the bodies that set them: national park authorities, customs and immigration services, road agencies, the published terms and rate cards of rental companies. When an article relies on such a source, it names it in the text.

Prices are given as ranges with their currency, never as a falsely precise figure: rental rates, fuel and park fees move with the season and the exchange rate. The update date shown at the top of each page tells you how old the reading is.

Some articles cite a published study (road safety, fatigue, health risks, travel behaviour). Since 22 September 2026 the rule is strict: a study is cited only if its DOI or PubMed identifier exists and matches the title, authors and year written in the text (checked against the Crossref registry). No DOI, no citation.

Older articles that linked to search-engine results instead of the study itself are being corrected, starting with the most-read ones.

Texts are written from the sources above and published under the responsibility of the publisher, Clément Lacaille. We do not publish invented reviews, ratings, testimonials or prices, and we do not claim first-hand experience we do not have.

Namibia is the most detailed country: stage pages with distances and road types, three itineraries (10, 15 and 21 days) and a paid guide. Other countries are documentary digests focused on what a self-driver needs (rental, insurance, driving rules, borders, seasons). Distances and driving times are indicative: always check them on an up-to-date map before leaving.

Each page shows its publication and last-update dates; the sitemap uses the date the content changed, never the build time. When a rule changes, we update the existing page rather than publish a new one.
